About
I’m Ryan Dueck, an exile from the Canadian prairies now enjoying life on the wonderful (wet) west coast. A little town in southern Alberta called Coaldale was home for most of my life, until we packed up four years ago and began the march westward.
We stopped for long enough in Vancouver for me to complete a masters degree at Regent College, and then were off to Vancouver Island where I am currently an associate pastor at Neighbourhood Church, a part of the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches.
Previous endeavors include driving truck for a living, working on the family farm, obtaining a BA in philosophy from the University of Lethbridge, and doing a bit of teaching at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford, BC.
I am the husband of a wonderful woman, the father of two delightful children, and a committed follower of Jesus Christ. I wonder frequently about God, the world, and how best to think and live within it most faithfully and honestly. I am a hopeful skeptic; hopefully, the farther along the journey I go, the less skeptical I become.
(Incidentally, those wondering what exactly a “Rumbling” is, or why anyone would use it as a name for a blog, can read the story about the naming process here).

hey ryan, what is your email address? your msn address?
i think there should be a contact ryan button on this site because, i too, do not have your e-mail address. just a suggestion.
It should be up now – thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks Ryan for the message, its good to hear from you. I hear that all is well on Vancouver Island with your new job. Talk to you soon.
Hey there Ryan,
I’m James T’s (your boss)friend from seminary. back about 15+ or so years ago, i pastored in Gem AB – loved it there. I had a horse and rode the lease.
Larry
Hi Larry, good to hear from you. What a cool irony—my mom is originally from Gem, AB and I have fond memories of visiting my grandparents there. I’m not sure if anyone I know would have been there when you were pastoring, but it’s a small town so it’s certainly possible. We’ve very much enjoyed getting to know James and Janet during our brief time in Nanaimo.
Hey there,
Interesting blog on the hockey dad thing. Too bad its not baseball that Nicolas is into. Had dinner with your folks yesterday at John and Elvira’s. Your other grandma was there as well. Thought it was ironic that I was hanging out with so many old people. Realized that I fall into that category as well. Say hi to Naomi and the kids. Rod
Hey, great to hear from you Rod! Alas, hockey is Nicky’s first love (although he told me he likes watching baseball the other day… go figure!). I will definitely say hi to Naomi and the kids. Maybe we’ll see you this Christmas?
